Last week, our Technical Rescue Team trained alongside the Washington National Guard, strengthening the partnership and specialized skills needed to respond to complex rescue emergencies. By working together in realistic scenarios, both agencies improve their ability to safely reach and rescue patients in remote locations, difficult terrain, and areas with limited access.

As a reminder, technical rescue helicopter training will continue at Station 60 tomorrow, June 16, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Community members may see and hear increased helicopter activity throughout the day as emergency responders and Washington National Guard personnel conduct planned training operations in the area.

For the safety of flight crews and our team, please do not fly drones near emergency aircraft or training operations. Even a small drone can create a serious hazard and may force training or emergency operations to stop.

Firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 14100 block of Meridian Ave E in the South Hill area yesterday evening.

A large column of smoke was visible as crews responded, leading to additional resources being dispatched. Upon arrival, firefighters found a detached outbuilding fully involved in fire.

Crews utilized a defensive strategy, attacking the fire from the exterior with handlines and aerial master streams. The outbuilding was destroyed, but the fire was contained and extinguished without any reported injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office.

A total of 13 resources responded, including 6 fire suppression, 3 EMS, and 4 command/support units.

When serious crashes happen, every second matters. That's why our firefighters train on vehicle extrication, giving them the skills to quickly and safely access patients who need urgent medical care.

As students celebrate graduation and end-of-year events, we want to remind everyone to drive safely, stay alert, and make smart choices behind the wheel.

Celebrate responsibly. Designate a sober driver, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence.

Let's make sure everyone gets home safely this graduation season.
